Is it safe to give Revolut my SSN?

Give a Social Security number only inside the official Revolut app or site that you opened yourself, and only if that flow asks for it to open or verify a US account.

Give a Social Security number only inside the official Revolut app or site that you opened yourself, and only if that flow asks for it to open or verify a US account. Do not read it aloud to someone who called, and do not type it into a page that arrived by text.

US financial institutions collect a taxpayer identification number to identify the customer. That is a legal requirement of the customer identification rules, not a quirk of one screen. Whether Revolut’s US entity asks every applicant for an SSN, or also accepts an ITIN, is what the application in front of you says. A second old page (“does Revolut require SSN?”) is the same question and now points here. If the form does not ask, do not volunteer the number in a chat box.

The IRS is the source for what an SSN is. Revolut’s own privacy notice is the source for how that company stores it. Neither notice is a reason to send the number to a “support agent” on a messaging app.

Questions

Is it safe to give Revolut my SSN?

Only in the official application you opened yourself. It is not safe to give it to a caller or a texted link.

Does every Revolut account require an SSN?

A US application may. An account opened in another country follows that country’s identification rules. Read the form you are actually filling in.
